Brands like Artaic, a company gaining popularity for its glass tile mosaics, are also working to make it more affordable for consumers; they even just lowered the cost of their sintered glass mosaic tiles by a shocking 40%. Made from 100% recycled materials, these mosaics come in a wide range of colors, and arrive labeled for effortless installation, meaning you (or your contractor) won't have to spend weeks executing on a vision.

Whether you want a mosaic tile backsplash or a one-of-a-kind mosaic piece for a bathroom or pool house, Artaic’s process makes it possible without the usual complexity or high price tag.

Beautiful and Sustainable—Without the Cost Barrier

Mosaics as a timeless art form used to be expensive and labor-intensive, but thanks to advances in technology, they're easier to come by. “Art was the inspiring anchor for creating Artaic," shared Ted Acworth, the brand's Founder and CEO. "Seeing powerful works of art reimagined in mosaic—digitally designed using our proprietary software and then crafted with our robotic technology—will always be meaningful to us."

The sintered glass tiles that Artaic uses are made from post-consumer recycled materials (specifically, old car windshields). Instead of ending up in a landfill, the company uses the glass to manufacture high-quality tiles through a process that improves durability and color depth.

A few reasons why Artaic’s mosaic designs stand out to us:

  • Eco-friendly: Made entirely from recycled glass, the tile pieces reduce waste and environmental impact.
  • Durable: Non-porous, antimicrobial, and resistant to water, dirt, and stains.
  • Versatile: Available in matte, opalescent, and glossy finishes for different design styles.
  • More affordable than ever: With a 40% price drop, custom mosaics are no longer just for high-end projects.

Artaic’s commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at materials. Their production process itself minimizes waste by using only what’s needed for each project. This cuts down on excess material and unnecessary costs, making it possible to pass savings along to the consumer.

Custom Design, Made Simple

Mosaic installation is its own skillset in the world of interior design, and for the most part, requires meticulous planning, careful attention to tile placement, and often a professional installer. Artaic’s approach simplifies everything, making it possible for empowered DIYers and imaginative designers to take spaces to the next level.

Artaic's “Print-to-Fit” technology is where it's at. The process delivers mosaic-ready tile sheets designed and sized to fit your specific space. The shipment arrives with each tile sheet labeled, making installation as straightforward as following a map. If you're a first-timer when it comes to tiling, we think that'll make it easy enough for you.

The brand is responsible for some really incredible mosaics, with more to come. "The Creation of Adam pool installation in Silicon Valley is a perfect example of this ‘ancient meets modern’ approach that continues to inspire our team," highlighted Acworth. "Another favorite is the translation of a lithograph into mosaic at a residential condominium in Boston. As a Boston-born company, it was especially rewarding to contribute to a project that pays homage to Back Bay’s historic colonial heritage. This installation also used our Sintered Glass tile, allowing us to create a stunning transformation using a recycled material.”

How does sintered glass compare to traditional ceramic or stone mosaics?

Sintered glass is more durable than ceramic tiles and less porous than stone. This means it's resistant to moisture and stains (great for a kitchen backsplash or in the shower). It’s also lighter, and attaching lighter tiles is always easier than trusting the effects of gravity on heavy tiles. Plus, since it’s made from recycled materials, it’s a sustainable choice.

Can I install these mosaics myself, or do I need a contractor?

Thanks to Artaic’s labeled system, DIY installation seems completely possible. We admittedly haven't tried it ourselves, but I've done a lot of tiling over the years, and if I know one thing, it's that working with sheets of tile over individual tiles is infinitely easier for a mosaic. If you’re willing to go slowly to keep all the spacing between sheets exact, I have no doubt you can handle it yourself.
