Calling all Prime members! Did you know your membership unlocks access to Amazon Luna, a cloud gaming service flooded with high-quality video games? Luna brings the magic of gaming to a wide range of devices—your Fire TV (or Fire TV Stick), PC, Mac, phone, or tablet—making it a really fun gaming platform whether you're playing in the living room television, on your computer, or bringing it as a +1 when you're traveling. "Cloud gaming is a relatively new technology and Luna is just getting started," shared an Amazon representative. "In the short time that Luna has been generally available, we’ve added the ability for customers to play their Ubisoft+ games using Luna games on devices they already own; made gaming easier to find with Games on Fire TV; and we’ve expanded onto more devices with partners like Samsung and LG."
A rotating assortment of games is available with your Prime membership, but if you're really into it, try Luna+ free for 7 days, or for an additional cost, level up to the $9.99 monthly subscription fee and access 100+ games. We've been using Amazon Luna Plus at home and enjoying the new gaming experience.
A Game-Changer for Prime Members
- No More Bulky Consoles: Ditch the bulky consoles and say sayonara to never-ending downloads. Luna lets you play games stored on Amazon's powerful servers, streaming them directly to your device. Just pick one from the game library and dive in – no downloads, no installations.
- Convenient Gaming, Regardless of Game Type: Luna grants access to single-player games, as well as local co-op, local PvP, online co-op, online PvP, and Luna Couch (local co-op games where you can invite spectators, even if they don't subscribe).
- A Full Range of Genres: From action and adventure to puzzles, racing, and sports, leverage your high-speed internet connection to engage in wireless gameplay on any compatible devices.
- No Lengthy Downloads: Remember those nights spent waiting for installs to finish? Luna blasts that frustration into oblivion. With Luna, you can browse the library, pick a game, and be playing within seconds. This means you can spend less time waiting and more time practicing your drifting or conquering kingdoms.
Adapts to Your Controllers: You don't need to buy the Amazon Luna Controller to play Luna games, but it is offered for $70 (and it's much cheaper right now thanks to Prime Days). While nice to have, I love that the system also works with other Bluetooth controllers including PlayStation and Xbox. You can also use the Luna Phone Controller App to use your mobile device as a gaming controller. - Free and Low-Cost Options: Luna offers different subscription service tiers, so you can pick the one that matches your family's gaming appetite. The base subscription tier has a curated selection of games, perfect for casual gamers or families looking for a variety of titles. There are also channels from publishers like Ubisoft+, offering a treasure trove in its catalog of games for an extra fee. This lets you choose a plan that fits your budget and gaming style.
Classic Games and New Favorite Games You (and the Kids) Will Love
Luna offers a great game variety in its rotating selection:
- Lego Fortnite
- Star Wars Pinball
- Tomb Raider, Remastered
- Sonic Mania Plus
- Earthworm Jim
- The Darkside Detective
- Fallout Las Vegas
FAQs
Do I need a Luna controller for Amazon Prime gaming?
We do use a Luna controller (and like it) but the system works with various Bluetooth controllers, including those for PlayStation and Xbox. Just like the controllers from those gaming consoles, this one has a textured grip. We haven't had any trouble with connection issues. You can also use your phone as a controller if you download the Luna Phone Controller mobile app.
What kind of internet connection do I need for Luna?
Luna recommends a minimum internet speed of 10 Mbps for a good experience. But for the smoothest gameplay, especially for higher resolutions, a faster connection (30 Mbps or above) and the latest browser version is ideal.
Is Luna included with my Prime membership?
Yes, you can access Luna and a rotating selection of free games with your Prime membership. Get a wider selection of your favorite games with Luna+, a separate service priced at $9.99/month. Keep an eye out, though. Prime membership might grant you great deals or trials for Luna subscriptions. You can also link your Ubisoft+ content to Luna to play those games on Amazon-supported devices, like your Fire TV and Fire TV Stick.
Can I play Luna on my phone or tablet?
Absolutely! Actually, one of the things we like most about the platform is that Luna is available on a bunch of devices, including Fire TVs, PCs, Macs, iPhones, iPads, and even some Android devices. We can bring it in the car and let kids play games on phones and tablets without having to pack a whole system and setup.
