As we continue to see the design industry embrace earth tones and textures, Kalco Lighting and Allegri Crystal have followed suit with a selection of new interior light fixtures that'll elevate your space. This season's newest design concepts integrate natural elements. If you're looking to upgrade light fixtures in your home—and we're talking everything from chandeliers to sconces to accent lights—consider how these 'natural lighting' options can help your home feel chic and modern, yet cozy.

What materials are trending in lighting design this year?

Award-winning industrial lighting designer for Kalco Lighting Grace Denniston says alabaster stone, Capiz shell, jute, and leather will be popular. "Whether you call it biophilic design, organic or wellness design, the trend to turn homes into a relaxing, laid-back retreat continues to be on the rise," shares Denniston. "This concept is centered around creating spaces that evoke calm, happy and tranquil feelings. It’s achieved by balancing elements in the room, like comfort and connections to nature. For that reason (and since lighting fixtures are key to setting the mood in a room), pendants, island lights, and wall sconces made of materials found in nature, such as authentic alabaster, Capiz shell, jute and leather, are becoming very popular."

The Future of Sustainable Materials

Sustainability is a leading trend and we've witnessed how homeowners and interior designers have embraced it for building materials and design choices alike. While trends may be changing for themes like rustic lighting and bamboo, the demand for other natural materials and natural light is not going away anytime soon.

"The first sustainable material I ever worked with was rattan when designing Tablas for Kalco Lighting in 2021, which won the Better Homes & Gardens Peoples’ Choice award that same year," shares Denniston. "Consumers were immediately drawn to the natural, authentic look and feel of the material, but as a designer I was inspired by its durability, flexibility, lightness, resiliency, and high quality along with its ability to soften and complement a range of design styles."
